On Friday I was married in a park not far from my neighbourhood. On my way to the ceremony with my brother, I saw this strange quote painted on the wall of a local wine bar, The Gazebo. My name certainly isn't a common one, so seeing it in big letters was noteworthy enough, but the timing and the romantic tone was too much of a coincidence for me to ignore.
If you can't make it out, it reads:
''Jumping with Blake would be the ultimate experience, she could hardly wait. He was so charming, so handsome, so outrageous. She was ready to follow him"
We went back to the bar this morning and asked one of the staff members about the story behind it.
He said that it was a passage from what he thought was a soft core porn/romance novel which had been transcribed onto the glass wall by his manager.
A quick google search revealed that the quote is, in fact, taken from a Danielle Steel bodice-ripper called "Rogue".
The novel's protagonist, a millionaire divorcee named Blake Williams, is a dashing entrepreneur who made a shitload of money in the dot com boom and now spends his spare time bedding women and skydiving.
The subsuquent verse goes like this:
"Blake appeared to be an expert at everything he did. He was an Olympic Class skier and had been since college, had learned to fly his own jet, with a copilot in attendance, given its size and complexity. And he had been skydiving for years. He had an extraordinary knowledge of art, and one of the most famous collections of contemporary and pre-Columbian art in the world. He was knowledgeable in wines, architecture, sailing, and women."

It's like someone stole your life, and made a novel out of it!
I know, It's uncanny.
Except for the bit about the Pre-Columbian art collection
